The Officer is responsible for supervising and ensuring the effective and quality implementation of child protection and psychosocial activities in the targeted sites of Kalehe and/or Ruzizi. The role involves coordinating with partners and local authorities to ensure equitable access to protection services for vulnerable children and supporting community-based protection mechanisms.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement child protection activities in collaboration with IRC implementing partners.
  • Ensure weekly and monthly planning of activities for RECOPE, social and para-social workers with partners.
  • Participate actively in child protection needs assessments and risk identification.
  • Provide technical support and capacity building to local actors including community structures and social workers.
  • Establish monitoring mechanisms for child protection issues including family separations adapted to volatile security contexts.
  • Support local actors in prevention and response mechanisms to violence and abuse against children.
  • Map actors in the intervention zone and contribute to referral mechanisms for children's needs.
  • Regularly monitor quantitative and qualitative aspects of activities in child-friendly spaces and communities.
  • Ensure compliance with Minimum Standards for Child Protection in Humanitarian Action and other relevant standards.
  • Contribute to selection of materials and approaches for psychosocial, creative and recreational activities for children.
  • Ensure child participation in all activities and quality of interventions.
  • Monitor implementation of social contracts for care of children in need.
  • Maintain positive and professional relations with education, nutrition SBC and protection teams.
  • Promote team spirit and provide technical guidance to team members.
  • Ensure quality integration activities such as discussion groups and awareness sessions.
  • Contribute to data collection for monitoring, evaluations and project proposals in child protection.
  • Produce activity reports with results, good practices and lessons learned.
  • Ensure integrated approach and collaboration with colleagues from other programs.
  • Maintain regular contact with local authorities, community leaders and structures to ensure project adherence and quality improvements.
  • Report immediately any problems or incidents to supervisor and liaise with community representatives for program safety.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by supervisor to ensure program progress.
  • Prepare daily, weekly and monthly team movement plans for approval by field coordinator.

Requirements

  • Be graduated at least at the level of a bachelor's degree in social sciences such as psychology, sociology, social work or any related field.
  • Have at least 5 years of professional experience in humanitarian work or with NGOs.
  • Have at least 3 years of experience in child case management.
  • Have at least 3 years of experience in supporting child-friendly spaces and psychosocial support for children.
  • Experience working with para-social workers, social workers, and community structures.
  • Have planning, prioritization, coordination skills and ability to execute multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Proven computer skills, especially Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
  • Mastery of the South-Kivu context, particularly the health zones of Kalehe and Ruzizi.
  • Fluency in written and spoken French; knowledge of national languages such as Swahili, Kihavu, Kiviira is an asset.
  • Commitment to IRC policies including client safeguarding and principles of diversity, equality and inclusion.
