See your match score & applyThe Education Officer is responsible for the start-up, implementation, monitoring, and technical supervision of educational activities in the targeted areas of Kalehe and Ruzizi. The role involves operational coordination of interventions aimed at access, retention, and quality of learning using the Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) approach, in close collaboration with state partners.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Manager to develop the monthly work plan for educational activities in Kalehe and Ruzizi.
- Develop terms of reference, budgets and purchase requests for awareness campaigns and teacher training.
- Coordinate community engagement activities with COPA/COGES and local structures (CAC, RECOPE) to stimulate education demand.
- Supervise implementation of the Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) approach in targeted schools and monitor skills assessments in math, reading and writing.
- Conduct regular field visits and classroom observations to triangulate data from catch-up courses and TaRL approach.
- Ensure distribution of school kits and furniture according to approved distribution plan.
- Collect data on school attendance and student performance.
- Produce weekly and monthly reports on education performance indicators.
- Maintain and update the database of test results (pretest, intermediate, final) for students.
- Document best practices and lessons learned through beneficiary stories or articles.
- Maintain collaborative relationships with local inspectors and school directors for pedagogical mentoring.
- Ensure integration of child protection and PSEA/GBV awareness in all school activities.
Requirements
- Be holder of a university degree (Bac+3 or higher) in education sciences, social sciences or related field.
- At least 3 years of experience in implementing educational projects in humanitarian or development contexts.
- Proven mastery of the Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) approach or pedagogical remediation.
- Experience in organizing community awareness campaigns and parental education.
- Ability to train and support community structures (COPA, COGES, RECOPE).
- Ability to collect, analyze and archive school performance data (skills assessments).
- Experience in distributing school kits and managing complex distribution plans.
- Excellent communication skills with populations with limited literacy and numeracy.
- Ability to drive a motorcycle on difficult roads (valid driving license required).
- Fluency in French and local languages of Kalehe and Ruzizi.
- Commitment to IRC policies including client safeguarding and principles of diversity, equality and inclusion.
