The Finance Assistant supports the finance department by managing payment requests, disbursements, cash flow monitoring, and financial record keeping under the supervision of the Finance Officer and Finance Manager. The role involves ensuring compliance with IRC financial procedures and assisting with budget and administrative tasks in the Bamenda project area.

Responsibilities

  • Receive and verify payment requests for consistency and conformity with purchase order documents
  • Prepare valid disbursements according to approved payment methods
  • Pay qualified persons at the cash desk according to IRC procedures
  • Process advance request applications per IRC procedures
  • Prepare and print supporting documents for accounting files
  • Make weekly score and lettering of outstanding advances and payments and write summary statements
  • Code and enter cash register transactions into the computer account book
  • Translate accounting documents if necessary
  • Rank invoices and payment documents
  • Conduct monthly closing of the fund including physical count and bank reconciliations
  • Monitor cash flow and alert supervisor on payment capabilities
  • Keep payment methods safe during the day
  • Propose improvements to accounting and financial procedures
  • Manage day-to-day administrative management of the fund
  • Coordinate with Logistics department on payment request documents
  • Inform on lack of conformity in payment practices if necessary
  • Apply budget management rules and provide brief budgetary descriptions to new staff
  • Participate in budget management work
  • Communicate daily cash flow statements to Finance Officer
  • Report irregularities in payments or procedures
  • Participate in meetings and trainings organized by finance department
  • Apply new procedures implemented by Financial Controller or Country Director
  • Report any code of conduct violations regarding abuse and sexual exploitation
  • Commit to IRC ethics and policies
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by direct superior
  • Produce required reports

Requirements

  • Have at least a Bachelor's degree in management, accounting sciences
  • Have at least 2 years of experience with International NGO
  • Have an excellent knowledge of Accounting software (SUN System an asset)
  • Have the ability to write financial and accounting reports
  • Have the ability to work in a team
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Speak and write English, have a very good level in French
  • To be honest, neat and honest
  • Have the sense of responsibility, taste for communication, order, method and organization
  • In addition to the qualities of rigor, precision, reliability and method, the accountant must be open to external constraints
  • He must be able to free himself from the formalism of his technique to propose innovative solutions
  • He must have good interpersonal skills
