See your match score & applyThe international consultant will accelerate the implementation of priority project activities related to youth empowerment through ecotourism in São Tomé and Príncipe. The role involves technical and administrative coordination, designing methodological frameworks for consultations, supporting partnership development, facilitating strategic meetings, and ensuring documentation and visibility of project results.
Responsibilities
- Accelerate the implementation of priority project activities.
- Strengthen technical and administrative coordination between IOM, the UN Resident Coordinator's Office, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, relevant ministries and other national and international stakeholders including diaspora members.
- Design the methodological framework and format of consultations to ensure coherence and direct contribution to the national development strategy.
- Develop necessary agendas, discussion models, technical sheets and supports.
- Support identification of high potential niches in ecotourism.
- Strengthen national and international partnership bases for training and sector development.
- Facilitate all strategic and operational meetings ensuring neutral, inclusive and results-oriented moderation.
- Support sector dialogue structuring and project exit strategy.
- Support visibility and dissemination of project results.
- Ensure analytical documentation of each session (reports, minutes, executive summaries, recommendations).
- Strengthen technical capacities of national stakeholders and other relevant actors in structuring the sustainable ecotourism sector and inclusion of youth and women in the local economy.
- Formulate, consolidate and monitor the validation process of all deliverables including policy notes based on consultation results, identifying convergence and divergence points, thematic priorities and strategic axes integrating cross-cutting recommendations on gender, environment, human rights and intersectoral coherence aligned with national and international frameworks, norms and standards, particularly those of the Government and IOM.
- Publish the Ecotourism Market Research Report in São Tomé and Príncipe by identifying and mapping all local publication channels and coordinating with IOM RES and PUB units for official publication.
- Conduct workshops on youth and young women's integration into the local economy by reviewing literature on high potential ecotourism niches and providing analytical inputs for recommendation workshops.
- Identify institutions and specialists for training modules in the ecotourism sector by reviewing existing partnership agreements and proposing collaboration and strategic partnerships.
- Organize the National Forum on Sustainable Ecotourism by identifying all national stakeholders, reviewing existing exchange and sector dialogue platforms, and contributing to forum structuring and project exit strategy development.
Requirements
- Advanced university degree (master's or equivalent) in tourism, sustainable development, economics, public policy, social sciences, law, political science, sociology, international relations, development, migration governance or related fields.
- Minimum of five (5) years of proven professional experience in ecotourism, sustainable tourism, economic development, policy summaries or strategy development.
- Strong experience in strategic analysis and international partnerships.
- In-depth knowledge of the relevant regional and international context and strategic frameworks (EU, UN, IOM, AU, etc.).
- Strong knowledge of migration and development issues, with relevant experience in Africa and/or São Tomé and Príncipe.
- Solid experience in designing methodological frameworks, political events and formats for political summaries in compliance with European and international standards.
- Excellent writing, analytical and facilitation skills for consultative processes (policy reports, summaries, position papers).
- Proven experience in research, collection and analysis of quantitative and qualitative data.
- Fluency in Portuguese and French. English is an asset.
- Nationality different from São Tomé and Príncipe.
