See your match score & applyThe Senior Fingerprint Examiner is responsible for expert-level fingerprint comparison and identification, maintaining fingerprint databases, providing training, managing special projects, and representing the Fingerprint Unit Coordinator as needed. The role supports INTERPOL's mission to facilitate cross-border police cooperation and combat international crime.
Responsibilities
- Perform fingerprint comparison and identification using the Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS).
- Prepare findings for presentation and testify as an expert witness concerning fingerprint evidence.
- Ensure fingerprint database compliance with INTERPOL data retention rules.
- Maintain AFIS latent fingerprint database, fingerprint records and files.
- File and delete fingerprint records as necessary.
- Ensure the unit can reply 24/7 via a regular on-call duty.
- Manage fingerprint duties as a member of Incident Response Teams (IRT).
- Provide staff training on latent marks and AFIS use, including creation of training manuals.
- Organize and participate in training of fingerprint staff from member countries.
- Promote the fingerprint service by organizing and participating in working group meetings and conferences.
- Inform Member Countries of AFIS success stories and benefits.
- Organize and conduct visits of the unit.
- Prepare and provide presentations of the unit and special projects in diverse fora.
- Manage special projects assigned by the Coordinator of the Fingerprint Unit.
- Represent the Coordinator of the Fingerprint Unit as required and in his/her absence.
- Perform any other duties as required by the supervisor.
Requirements
- Three to four years’ education at a University or other specialized higher education establishment.
- At least three years’ experience in the area in question, and where necessary, management experience.
- Ten years’ experience in the area is required if the post holder does not have the required level of education.
- Fluency in English.
- Proficiency in a second official working language of the Organization (Arabic, French or Spanish) would be an additional asset.
- Strong communication skills, both in written and oral form (public speaking and delivery of presentations).
- Experience in working with computers including knowledge of oral presentations software, business intelligence and word processing software.
- Excellent knowledge of AFIS technology.
