Reserve List - Firearms Specialized Officer

The Firearms Specialized Officer supports INTERPOL's Firearms Programme by promoting policing capabilities, managing illicit arms records, and providing investigative support for firearms-related crime investigations. The role involves capacity building, training delivery, and coordination with law enforcement agencies to combat illicit firearms trafficking.

Responsibilities

• Act as a firearms and ballistic contact within Firearms Unit and projects.
• Liaise with military and law enforcement personnel within the Member States to identify entities responsible for the investigation of suspected firearms traffickers and assist law enforcement units with adherence to the INTERPOL Firearms Recovery Protocol or similar national protocols for the investigation and examination of firearms-related recovered evidence to further the prevention of crime.
• Promote Firearms Programme Policing Capabilities, iARMS, IBIN and IFRT to Members States and other stakeholders.
• Perform the necessary iARMS queries (and traces when applicable) on all recovered firearms and work with national entities to populate the database with each country’s registry of lost, stolen and suspected trafficked firearms.
• Enhance local capacity by providing train-the-trainer sessions on firearms for national firearms investigation units.
• Organize the implementation of regional operations against firearms trafficking.
• Perform all other duties required by the Coordinator Firearms.

Requirements

• A minimum of three-to-four years’ education at a University or other specialized higher education establishment.
• At least 3 years of experience in firearms-related investigations or in the prevention of firearms trafficking. Ten years’ experience in the area is required if the post holder does not have the required level of education.
• Proven experience in a law enforcement agency or international organization or related forensic field.
• Experience in working in an international organization would be an asset.
• Excellent command of English is required; proficiency in a second official working language of the Organization (French, Spanish or Arabic) would be an asset and may be required in conjunction with the linguistic capacities in the unit or the framework of a given project.
• Strong communication skills, both in written and oral form (public speaking and delivery of presentations).
• Experience in working with computers including knowledge of oral presentations software, business intelligence and word processing software.
