The Resident Macroeconomic Frameworks Advisor will provide technical assistance and training to Pacific Island countries to strengthen their macroeconomic forecasting and analytical capabilities. The role involves delivering TA missions, coordinating with IMF divisions and country teams, and managing short-term expert engagements to support sustainable economic growth and policy decision-making.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver, oversee, and coordinate technical assistance and related training on developing macroeconomic frameworks to support forecasting and policy analysis and decision-making processes in central banks, ministries of finance and relevant government agencies.
  • Prepare medium-term project and 12-month workplans in collaboration with country authorities and IMF stakeholders.
  • Manage the short-term expert certification and contracting process, including preparing draft terms of reference and acting as back-stopper of the expert's work.
  • Maintain close contact with relevant country teams; prepare required TA and training documents for internal review and approval.
  • Maintain existing projects updated in CDMAP, oversee budget expenses and RBM reporting.
  • Contribute to PFTAC corporate work such as steering committee meetings, annual report, newsletters, outreach efforts, and preparation of conferences/seminars.

Requirements

  • A post-graduate degree in Economics.
  • At least five years of relevant professional experience, with practical knowledge of the IMF's financial programming framework.
  • Excellent data management and analytical skills, including the use of MS Excel and econometric applications.
  • Experience in macroeconomic modelling and forecasting, including using relevant software such as EViews, Matlab, Dynare, and Iris (knowledge of these is a plus).
  • Strong spoken and written communication skills in English.
  • Exceptional organizational, interpersonal, and diplomatic skills.
  • Ability to work well in teams.
