See your match score & applyThe Enterprise Advisor provides integrated advisory services to support sustainable improvements in labour compliance, enterprise performance, productivity, competitiveness, and responsible business practices in the manufacturing sector. The role involves conducting enterprise assessments, delivering training and coaching, and supporting enterprises in adopting productivity improvement methodologies and responsible business conduct.
Responsibilities
- Conduct enterprise assessments using Better Work’s Compliance Assessment Tool independently.
- Produce high-quality reports in English on assessment findings, recommendations for improvement, enterprise improvement plans, and progress reports on implementation.
- Review reports of other advisors as part of the Better Work peer review quality assurance system.
- Provide high-quality enterprise advisory and consultancy services to improve enterprise performance, productivity, operational efficiency, workplace cooperation, and responsible business practices.
- Deliver coaching, facilitate labour-management committees, strengthen management systems, enterprise improvement planning, provide technical advice, support adoption of practical digital tools and innovative approaches, deliver tailored capacity-building, and provide technical guidance on Responsible Business Conduct (RBC), Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles, Human Rights Due Diligence (HRDD), occupational safety and health, gender equality, and climate-responsive enterprise practices.
- Develop, adapt, and deliver enterprise training programmes on labour compliance, workplace cooperation, supervisory skills, occupational safety and health, productivity improvement, and other enterprise development topics.
- Collaborate with colleagues across the ONE ILO SIRAYE Programme and other ILO technical teams to promote integrated delivery of enterprise and value chain development interventions.
- Select, adapt, and contextualize Better Work products for use at the individual enterprise level based on needs.
- Manage information in Better Work’s systems, including ASTRA, STAR, and SharePoint, and contribute to the programme’s monitoring and evaluation strategy, research agenda, and knowledge management, learning, and reporting.
- Document good practices, support enterprise diagnostics, identify opportunities for innovation and continuous improvement, contribute to enterprise learning, and support the development of innovative approaches to enterprise development and sustainable industrialization.
- Contribute to the effective implementation of programme activities by promoting efficient use of programme resources, supporting enterprise participation, and contributing to timely delivery of planned outputs and results.
- Act as a technical focal point for assigned thematic areas and perform other duties as required by the Enterprise Advisor Team Leader and the Programme Manager of the ONE ILO Siraye program.
- Perform other duties as may be assigned by the direct supervisor and the Program Manager.
Requirements
- An internationally recognized university degree in human resource management, OSH, industrial engineering, manufacturing or production engineering, business administration, international development, economics, labour relations, law, adult education, organizational development, enterprise development, or another relevant field.
- At least two years of professional experience in enterprise development, social dialogue and industrial relations, labour standards compliance, productivity improvement, capacity building in the private sector, adult education, industrial or manufacturing engineering, human resource management, responsible business conduct, occupational safety and health, sustainable enterprise development, or related fields.
- Experience working with enterprises in the manufacturing sector, particularly in the garment, textile, leather, coffee, or horticulture value chains, would be an advantage.
- Experience in enterprise advisory services, workplace cooperation, productivity improvement, industrial relations, or labour standards compliance is highly desirable.
- Excellent command of English and a good knowledge of the language of the duty station.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess enterprise performance, identify root causes, and develop practical improvement recommendations.
- Good knowledge of the Ethiopian labour-related law and regulations.
- Good group facilitation, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills and proven experience of delivering classroom training.
- Experience in industrial relations and building of social dialogue between management and worker representatives at the workplace would be an advantage.
- Understanding of enterprise management systems, including human resource management, production systems, quality management, workplace organization, and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Good knowledge of Responsible Business Conduct (RBC), Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles, labour compliance, and sustainable supply chain practices.
- Familiarity with Human Rights Due Diligence (HRDD) would be an advantage.
- Knowledge of productivity improvement methodologies, workplace cooperation, enterprise competitiveness, and sustainable enterprise development.
- Familiarity with SCORE, Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, or similar continuous improvement approaches would be an asset.
- Ability to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of enterprise advisory services, training programmes, and capacity-building initiatives and to contribute to programme learning and continuous improvement.
- Good understanding of gender equality, diversity and inclusion, and the ability to integrate these principles into enterprise advisory services and workplace interventions.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently in an outcomes-based work culture as well as contribute to the work of a team.
- Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams and contribute to integrated programme delivery across technical areas.
- Capacity to sensitively liaise and network with a range of stakeholders, including staff, donors, international buyers, government officials, management, unions, and NGOs.
- Ability to work with word processing and computer software packages required for work and other software packages for producing information materials.
