The Associate Investment Officer will originate, structure, execute, and supervise investment projects across the Latin America and Caribbean region in the Manufacturing, Agribusiness and Services sectors. The role involves business development, portfolio management, and collaboration with internal and external partners to deliver integrated client solutions and maximize development impact.

Responsibilities

  • Support or Lead business development efforts across MAS in the country.
  • Together with the Central America and Caribbean MAS Hub Lead and the WBG country team, lead the scoping and identification process of priority companies to target as IFC clients in the country, considering the strategic areas of focus for MAS in the country.
  • Actively develop a local network with target companies, financial institutions, financial advisors, and credit agencies in the country.
  • Lead transaction execution and portfolio management activities across the MAS LAC region.
  • Evaluate, structure, negotiate, and close new investment transactions, portfolio restructurings, reschedulings, capital increases, equity sales, and other portfolio management activities.
  • Develop innovative and appropriate financial structures for complex transactions.
  • Lead or participate in negotiations, leveraging strong financial expertise and influencing skills to achieve successful outcomes.
  • Work independently and collaborate with senior colleagues to develop a strong pipeline of high-quality investment opportunities in the countries.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, sponsors, financial institutions, private sector partners, and multilateral organizations to originate new investment opportunities.
  • Mentor and coach junior investment staff on all aspects of investment processing, portfolio management, and client engagement.
  • Support dissemination of best practices within the team.
  • Collaborate closely with Advisory, Environmental & Social, Legal, Treasury, and other internal partners to deliver integrated client solutions, manage transaction risks, and maximize development impact.
  • Collaborate closely with the Upstream team to support market creation efforts and develop a robust pipeline of future investment opportunities.
  • Collaborate on the preparation of Country Private Sector Diagnostics (CPSD), Country Partnership Framework (CPF), Senior Management Briefs, Country Climate and Development Reports (CCDR), etc.
  • Engage with World Bank colleagues on MAS-related issues.
  • Build effective working relationships across multidisciplinary teams and influence internal and external stakeholders to achieve successful transaction outcomes.

Requirements

  • Master's degree with a minimum of 4 - 8 years of relevant experience in investment, corporate finance, private equity, commercial banking, development finance, or other relevant financial institutions, with a proven track record of sourcing, structuring, and closing investments, preferably across multiple MAS sectors.
  • Extensive experience in investment execution, portfolio supervision, restructurings, and client relationship management.
  • Strong financial, credit, and analytical skills, with demonstrated experience structuring a broad range of debt and equity investments and executing complex transactions.
  • Strong business development and client relationship management skills, with a demonstrated ability to originate investment opportunities and build long-term client relationships.
  • Proven ability to develop innovative financial solutions for complex transactions.
  • Strong judgment and ability to make sound investment recommendations in complex and dynamic situations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Fluency in Spanish is required.
  • Portuguese language skills would be an asset.
  • Ability to interact directly and independently with senior management of clients, sponsors, and prospective partners.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across multicultural teams and build trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor, coach, and develop junior investment professionals.
