The Associate Information Analyst (Open Source) conducts open source research and analysis related to nuclear fuel cycles of assigned States to support the IAEA's safeguards efforts. The role involves collecting, reviewing, and analyzing data from various sources to detect indications of undeclared nuclear material or activities and preparing analytical inputs for reports used by State Evaluation Groups.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Section staff in the collection, review and analysis of information for assigned States, including open source data, nuclear material accounting data, satellite imagery and environmental sampling data.
  • Conduct analyses to ascertain any indications of undeclared nuclear material or activities and collaborate with colleagues to identify recommended follow-up actions.
  • Prepare contributions to analytical products and reports to summarize findings and recommendations as input to State Evaluation Groups.
  • Conduct further research as requested by State Evaluation Groups and work with Section staff to identify additional research issues and tasks.
  • Identify possible new sources of information of relevance for research tasks and consult with Section staff to evaluate reliability.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives for the collection and analysis of open source information and the streamlining of processes.
  • Participate in meetings to brief recipients on the results of open source information analysis.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree - University degree in science, technology, international relations, communications, or areas of relevance to non-proliferation studies.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in conducting open source information collection and analysis on technical subjects or two years of experience in conducting nuclear research.
  • Experience in the use of information collection, processing and analysis techniques, including the use of advanced text retrieval techniques and complex databases.
  • Experience in preparing analytical content for products or reports, with the ability to respond rapidly to new information requirements.
  • Excellent oral and written command of English.
  • Knowledge of other official IAEA languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) is an asset.
