Fisheries Expert

The Fisheries Expert will support the formulation of the GEF-8 project document focused on sustainable fisheries development in Viet Nam. The role involves providing technical inputs on fisheries management, contributing to project design, and supporting stakeholder consultations and documentation.

Responsibilities

• Collate and document information relevant to the fisheries sector in the project target provinces
• Review baseline policies, regulatory frameworks and existing initiatives related to fisheries management and update relevant sections of the Project Document
• Contribute to the identification and design of fisheries-related project interventions, ensuring alignment with EAFM principles and biodiversity conservation objectives
• Provide technical inputs on sustainable fisheries management, including issues related to fishing practices, co-management approaches, and fisheries resource protection measures
• Support the formulation of approaches related to Fisheries Resource Protected Areas (FRPAs)/OECMs and sustainable use of fisheries resources
• Contribute to the development of fisheries-related sections in the project document, including baseline, rationale and results framework
• Support the development of monitoring framework related to fisheries and marine biodiversity where relevant
• Provide technical support in stakeholder consultations, field visits and workshops throughout the PPG process
• Support the development of the ProDoc (Vietnamese version) and its annexes as required by Decree 242/2025/NĐ-CP, review and draft comments to address comments/ feedbacks from relevant Departments as well as related Ministries
• Undertake other tasks as required

Requirements

• Advanced university degree (Master or PhD) in Fisheries, Aquaculture, or related field
• At least 10 years of progressively responsible professional experience in the aquaculture and fisheries sector or a related field in Viet Nam
• Working knowledge in English and Vietnamese
• National of Viet Nam or resident of the country with a valid work permit
• Previous experience working on GEF projects or other international donors’ projects preferred
• Relevant experience in working in multidisciplinary and multicultural teams, particularly in multilateral organizations
• Experience in working with partners in Viet Nam at all levels (Ministries, provinces, private sectors, etc.)
• Good command of computer skills
• Good research, analysis, and report writing skills
• Proven ability to deliver quality outputs working under tight deadlines
