Principal Banker, SI MEA

The Principal Banker is based in Amman, Jordan, working in the sustainable infrastructure sector within the EBRD's SI MEA team. The role involves project development and implementation, including origination, structuring, execution, and monitoring of investments in energy and infrastructure sectors in Jordan and Iraq.

Responsibilities

• Work as a senior project team member and operation leader on project structuring, negotiation, execution, and management.
• Lead structuring, negotiation, and execution of transactions with clients, authorities, consultants, and internal units.
• Manage resources and workload of project teams under supervision.
• Oversee project due diligence ensuring compliance with Bank standards.
• Ensure quality and appropriateness of technical cooperation assistance components supporting investments or policy dialogue.
• Perform portfolio monitoring, provide advice and supervision to junior team members.
• Take responsibility for effective monitoring and management of projects, client relationships, and resolution of implementation issues.
• Supervise implementation, monitoring, and reporting on technical cooperation assignments ensuring compliance with donor requirements.
• Contribute to policy dialogue initiatives at project and national levels.
• Assist in marketing and business development to build market contacts and develop deal flow.
• Assist in screening project proposals and liaising with colleagues to identify sound investments.
• Assist in recruiting, training, coaching, and mentoring junior bankers, ensuring quality and workload distribution.
• Develop productive relationships within the organisation to work effectively in a matrix and multicultural environment.
• Manage team engagement, recruitment, compensation, performance management, coaching, and development.
• Champion and role model the Bank’s behavioural competencies and corporate behaviours ensuring integrity and ethical conduct.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred or equivalent experience in relevant areas.
• Professional qualification such as ACA, CFA, ACCA, or CIMA is desirable.
• Strong quantitative and numerical skills with ability to interpret financial information and design/use financial models.
• Credit analysis skills including interpretation of accounts and understanding of local and international accounting principles and credit analysis practices.
• Computer literacy with proficiency in Microsoft Office and spreadsheet packages including financial analysis and modelling modules.
• Excellent understanding of relevant systems and processes.
• Stakeholder management skills.
• Coaching, mentoring and leadership skills.
• Relationship management and negotiation skills.
• Ability to work to deadlines and under time pressure.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Arabic.
• Significant relevant financial industry and country experience from investment or commercial banks, private equity firms, asset management firms, or auditing/financial consulting firms operating to international standards.
• Practical experience participating in and leading complex transactions through the full project life cycle.
• Significant financial industry and country experience covering energy and/or infrastructure sectors in Jordan.
• Strong experience in project finance and/or climate finance.
