The Protection Specialist provides technical oversight and support to partner organisations and DRC teams in implementing protection programming. The role focuses on strengthening technical standards, partner capacity, referral pathways, programme quality, and risk-informed approaches to ensure context-appropriate and accountable protection interventions.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of DRC’s protection strategy in Yemen.
  • Support design and implementation of community-based protection services and referral mechanisms.
  • Identify, analyze and mitigate protection needs of vulnerable persons.
  • Lead development and roll-out of technical tools, SOPs, guidance and minimum standards.
  • Provide technical input to assessments, project design and donor reporting.
  • Participate in proposal development with technical and contextual analysis.
  • Support development of MEAL tools and learning processes.
  • Document lessons learned and operational challenges for programme adaptation.
  • Provide day-to-day technical support and guidance to partners and DRC teams.
  • Strengthen technical capacity through training, coaching and mentoring.
  • Ensure programming aligns with humanitarian principles and protection standards.
  • Review partner tools, workplans and reports to identify challenges and solutions.
  • Provide technical guidance for complex and sensitive cases.
  • Conduct regular field visits to review programme quality and provide support.
  • Assess capacity needs and contribute to capacity building plans.
  • Develop and deliver training materials and induction packages.
  • Support recruitment and onboarding of protection roles.
  • Represent DRC in inter-agency coordination forums and technical working groups.
  • Coordinate with partners and stakeholders to strengthen collaboration.
  • Support development and dissemination of service mapping for referral pathways.
  • Promote inclusive and protection-sensitive approaches across programmes.
  • Support generation of evidence, protection analysis and advocacy messages.
  • Maintain positive work relationships and promote team-building.
  • Adhere to DRC’s mission, values and code of conduct.

Requirements

  • Professional proficiency in English.
  • Native Arabic language skills preferred.
  • Experience in protection programming and technical support to partners.
  • Ability to design, adapt and implement protection approaches, tools and systems.
  • Experience in training, coaching, mentoring and capacity building.
  • Knowledge of humanitarian principles and protection standards.
  • Experience in programme design, quality assurance, analysis, coordination and adaptation.
  • Ability to conduct field visits and provide technical support.
  • Experience in inter-agency coordination and representation.
  • Ability to develop technical tools, SOPs, guidance and minimum standards.
  • Experience in developing MEAL tools, indicators and learning processes.
  • Ability to document lessons learned, good practices and operational challenges.
  • Experience in supporting recruitment and onboarding of protection roles.
