Responsibilities
- Maintain and extend the core Optics Measurement and Correction (OMC) framework and toolset used during LHC commissioning and operation.
- Explore software solutions to improve the efficiency and capability of optics measurement and corrections in the LHC.
- Update accelerator model creation and correction algorithms to utilise new simulation tools.
- Explore the viability of automation for key measurement and analysis workflows, implementing solutions where possible.
- Develop new GUIs and analysis tools to be used in the CERN Control Centre during optics commissioning.
- Participate in, and contribute to the analysis of, optics measurements in the CERN accelerators.
Requirements
- You are a national of a CERN Member State or Associate Member State, excluding Pakistani, Lithuanian, Latvian, Cypriot and Croatian nationals due to Associate Membership Agreement ceilings.
- By the application deadline, you have a master’s degree with 2 to 6 years of professional experience since graduation or a PhD with a maximum of 3 years of professional experience since graduation.
- You are not eligible with only a bachelor’s degree.
- You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
- Background in programming and software design, with experience in Python.
- Familiarity with version control systems and collaborative workflows (Github).
- Experience of GUI development.
- Knowledge of particle accelerator physics and operation would be an advantage.
- Your studies focused on Physics, Software Engineering.
- Spoken and written English or French, with a commitment to learn the other language.
