Mechanical Technician

Contribute to the Future Circular Collider (FCC) project by developing coating technology for vacuum chambers. Participate in design, fabrication, coating, and validation processes alongside engineers, technicians, and physicists, with training provided to develop specialist skills in a unique international environment.

Responsibilities

• Design and construct mechanical parts for customised physical vapor deposition systems and associated tooling.
• Assemble coating setups operating in Ultra High Vacuum.
• Validate the coating technology and process using real scale prototypes up to 12 meter long beam pipes.
• Validate the vacuum performance of the coatings produced in Ultra High Vacuum systems.

Requirements

• You are a national of a CERN Member State or Associate Member State, excluding Pakistani, Lithuanian, Latvian, Cypriot and Croatian nationals due to Associate Membership Agreement ceilings.
• By the application deadline, you have a maximum of 2 years of professional experience since graduation in a technical or administrative field.
• Your highest educational qualification is a general secondary education diploma or a shorter non-university degree; you cannot hold a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree or PhD.
• You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
• Experience in machining metal parts in lathe and milling machines; CNC experience is an advantage.
• Familiarity with CAD software to design mechanical parts.
• Practical experience in assembling mechanical equipment.
• Experience in vacuum technology is an advantage.
• Your studies focused on Mechanical Engineering.
• A valid driving licence.
• Ability to work in radiation areas and underground installations.
• Willingness to work during nights, Sundays and official holidays as required.
• Spoken and written English or French, with a commitment to learn the basics of the other language.
