The ISOLDE System Engineer will contribute to the upgrade of the ISOLDE Offline Facilities, coordinating technical activities, supporting installation and commissioning, and delivering reliable infrastructure for radioactive ion beam experiments. The role involves technical coordination, project management, and collaboration with engineers and physicists to ensure successful project delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical coordination and day-to-day management of the ISOLDE Offline Facilities consolidation project.
  • Coordinate activities between different internal technical services and teams.
  • Follow project schedules, technical interfaces, procurement activities and installation planning.
  • Organise technical meetings, track actions and communicate project progress to stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with CERN safety regulations.
  • Participate in the preparation of technical specifications, installation documentation and project reports.
  • Support the integration and commissioning of upgraded beam delivery and target production infrastructure.
  • Contribute to system testing and acceptance.
  • Work closely with physicists, engineers and technicians to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Participate in the commissioning of upgraded systems.

Requirements

  • You are a national of a CERN Member State or Associate Member State (excluding Pakistani, Lithuanian, Latvian, Cypriot and Croatian nationals due to ceiling limits).
  • By the application deadline, you have a master’s degree with 2 to 6 years of professional experience since graduation or a PhD with a maximum of 3 years of professional experience since graduation.
  • You are not eligible with only a bachelor’s degree.
  • You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
  • Proven experience in multidisciplinary engineering projects and accelerator technologies.
  • Experience in beam production or beam diagnostics.
  • Interest in project management and technical coordination.
  • Proven ability to understand complex technical systems involving several engineering disciplines.
  • Knowledge of scientific instrumentation, vacuum systems, electrical systems or industrial controls is an advantage.
  • Experience gained during studies or research in the fields of experimental physics, accelerator physics or scientific instrumentation would be an advantage.
  • Your studies focused on Physics, Mechanical Engineering.
  • Good organisational and planning skills.
  • Ability to coordinate activities involving multiple stakeholders.
  • Analytical approach to solving technical problems.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with specialists from different technical domains.
  • Capacity to document and report on technical activities and project progress.
  • Spoken and written English, with a commitment to learn French.
