The Full-Stack Software Engineer will develop and evolve CERN’s advanced Network and Telecom infrastructure by designing scalable back-end systems and web applications. The role involves contributing to network automation tools, IP address provisioning, and maintaining web interfaces for network and telephony management.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development of CERN's network automation tools, focusing on faster and more flexible IP address provisioning including live DHCP updates.
  • Extend IP Address Management support for Layer 2 interfaces, involving back-end development, database modelling, API integration and collaboration with network engineers.
  • Maintain and further develop the IT-FCS Web interfaces used by all CERN users to request network/telephony changes.
  • Participate in the design and development of new modules for the internal IT-FCS network and telecom management framework, such as Technical Network firewall configuration automation/provisioning.
  • Promote and develop DevOps processes and tools to increase automation and software quality.
  • Propose and implement changes in database models and network APIs to support service integration solutions in CERN data centers.
  • Stay up to date on latest software technology trends.

Requirements

  • You have a maximum of 2 years of professional experience since graduation in the respective field by the application deadline.
  • Your highest educational qualification is either a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science (Software Engineering).
  • You must have a university degree and cannot hold a PhD.
  • You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
  • Experience in software development through professional experiences, academic projects, internships, traineeships or personal/open-source projects.
  • Exposure to the development of web applications, including either front-end interfaces, back-end services or both.
  • Some experience working with databases, data models or APIs as part of a software project.
  • Experience working in a team environment, for example through university projects, internships or collaborative development work.
  • Familiarity with software development practices such as version control, testing or continuous integration would be an advantage.
  • Strong knowledge of Java, Spring Boot, REST, React.
  • Highly desired: SQL (Oracle and PL/SQL) and UX/UI design.
  • Spoken and written English, with a commitment to learn French.
  • You are a national of a CERN Member State or Associate Member State (excluding Pakistani, Lithuanian, Latvian, Cypriot and Croatian nationals due to Associate Membership Agreement ceilings).
