You will ensure the availability and reliability of CERN’s cryogenic installations by providing daily technical support, maintaining industrial instrumentation systems and diagnosing complex electrical faults. You will also contribute to the design and optimisation of low-voltage electrical cabinets and components, in compliance with electrical safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the technical design and development of electrical cabinets for cryogenic systems, including the calculation to dimension the electrical systems, producing detailed electrical drawings, selecting components and ensuring compliance with electrical safety requirements.
  • Participate in and supervise the fabrication, installation and commissioning of electrical and instrumentation systems for cryogenic installations, including related procurement activities such as evaluating cost estimates and ordering component.
  • Provide daily operational support for cryogenic installations and contribute to the stand-by duty service to resolve urgent issues (including fault-finding, implementation of fixes, and reporting to the operation team).
  • Plan and coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance activities for system components, setting maintenance priorities and keep the corresponding technical documentation and procedures up to date.
  • Select and implement industrial instrumentation systems and carry out equipment testing and calibration according to operational requirements.

Requirements

  • Technical certificate or general secondary education or equivalent relevant experience in the field of Industrial Electrotechnics, Electrical and Instrumentation Technology, Electromechanics or a related field.
  • Experience in the design of low-voltage electrical systems and cabinets, including system architecture, cable and protection sizing, device selection and preparation of wiring diagrams, using electrical SEE CAD software.
  • Experience in the manufacture, wiring, testing, coordination of installation and commissioning of electrical equipment.
  • Experience in diagnosing and resolving electrical or instrumentation faults in operational systems.
  • Experience in preventive and corrective maintenance and in maintaining technical documentation and procedures.
  • A valid driving licence.
  • Work in Radiation Areas.
  • Interventions in underground installations.
  • Participation in a regular stand-by duty, including nights, Sundays and official holidays.
  • Spoken and written English or French, with a commitment to learn the other language.
