You will contribute to the layout, optics design, performance optimisation and evaluation of a potential future collider at CERN, the Linear Collider Facility @ 380 GeV (LCF380). Responsibilities include beam dynamics simulations, interaction region investigations, and contributing to the summary design report.

Responsibilities

  • Work on various design aspects of LCF380.
  • Perform beam dynamics simulations to demonstrate its performance.
  • Investigate the interaction regions (optics design, layout, for a possible dual beam delivery system) and the damping rings to optimise performance.
  • Contribute to writing the summary design report.

Requirements

  • You are a national of a CERN Member State or Associate Member State, excluding Pakistani, Lithuanian, Latvian, Cypriot and Croatian nationals due to Associate Membership Agreement limits.
  • By the application deadline, you have a master’s degree with 2 to 6 years of professional experience since graduation or a PhD with a maximum of 3 years of professional experience since graduation.
  • You are not eligible with only a bachelor’s degree.
  • You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
  • Knowledge and understanding of lepton beam dynamics and optics design, including synchrotron radiation.
  • Knowledge and experience in the setup, analysis and interpretation of particle tracking studies.
  • Analysis of experimental data.
  • Your studies focused on Physics.
  • Experience with accelerator physics codes like MAD, Xsuite, ELEGANT, pyAT, GuineaPig, etc.
  • Experience running simulations on a high-performance computing (HPC) system.
  • Good presentation skills.
  • Spoken and written English, with a commitment to learn French.
