The American Red Cross is hiring part-time Summer Camp Counselors to support the Youth Disaster Preparedness Program in Philadelphia. Counselors deliver disaster preparedness education to youth at summer camp locations, driving Red Cross vehicles and conducting interactive presentations on fire safety, emergency preparedness, and CPR.

Responsibilities

  • Attend mandatory one-week onboarding training July 6 – 11 from 8:30am – 5pm.
  • Coordinate timely arrival at camp locations with team members.
  • Conduct Prepare with Pedro, Be Red Cross Ready and Hands Only CPR presentations for youth at summer camps.
  • Utilize physical and audiovisual program materials to deliver engaging presentations.
  • Work with individual students during activities.
  • Organize and distribute program support materials to students.
  • Assist with classroom management.
  • Complete and submit all reporting data for each presentation to regional staff in a timely manner.
  • Assist with other duties as assigned by regional staff and volunteer program leads.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Working with youth and delivering educational presentations is preferred; training on disaster-specific knowledge will be provided.
  • Basic computer skills required.
  • Exemplary interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work well with youth and on a team.
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Must have a current valid driver's license with a good driving record.
  • Must be willing to drive Red Cross fleet vehicles to camp locations.
  • Must pass a child protective services background check.
  • Ability to travel daily throughout the City of Philadelphia.
  • Physical ability to regularly use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, talk or hear.
  • Ability to regularly lift and/or move objects weighing 10-50 pounds.
  • Occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • Occasionally required to sit and climb or balance.
  • Work environment includes moderate noise.
