See your match score & applyThe Blood Collection Staff position involves assisting with every step of the blood collection process including setting up equipment, creating a welcoming environment for donors, and following safety procedures to collect lifesaving blood donations. Paid phlebotomy training is provided with opportunities to grow healthcare skills within the American Red Cross.
Responsibilities
- Utilize healthcare and/or customer service skills to assist with every step of the blood collection process
- Collaborate with team to transport and setup equipment at collection sites in local communities
- Create a welcoming and comfortable environment for volunteer donors
- Follow all safety procedures while collecting lifesaving blood donations
- Take time to personally connect with donors and help them understand the impact of their donation
- Collaborate with teammates to create a welcoming and friendly environment so donors feel comfortable returning
- Be detail oriented to ensure blood collected meets goals, regulatory requirements and can be safely transfused
- May drive Red Cross vehicles and work with team to setup and tear down equipment at donation sites
- Work variable schedule including early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holidays
- Schedule provided two to three weeks in advance
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent is required
- Customer service experience and effective verbal communication skills are required
- A current, valid driver's license with a good driving record is required
- DOT certification is required, you must pass applicable DOT physical and related requirements and be able to possess or obtain a medical certification of at least one-year duration
- Physical requirements may include the ability to lift, push or pull heavy weights up and down ramps and stairs, good manual dexterity, the ability to sit or stand for long periods of time and adapt to long, irregular hours and frequent schedule changes are required
- Position may require a minimum height of 60 inches to ensure the ability to safely operate Red Cross vehicles
- Basic computer skills are required
- Must be proficient with Microsoft office applications
- Prior healthcare or phlebotomy experience (CNA, MA, EMT, etc.) is preferred
- Prior leadership experience is preferred
