See your match score & applyThe Investment Officer is responsible for the origination, structuring, and execution of infrastructure-related public-sector transactions in Region 2, supporting AIIB's lending program by planning, designing, preparing, implementing, and monitoring sovereign projects/programs. The role involves close collaboration with other AIIB departments and assisting management in building the investment pipeline.
Responsibilities
- Lead and co-lead the origination, structuring, and execution of investment projects in an efficient and timely manner.
- Organize and supervise project due diligence to ensure key economic, financial, technical, legal, environmental, and social issues and risks are considered and mitigants are incorporated in the financing structure and legal documentation during project preparation.
- Conduct comprehensive research and analysis of background materials, market information, and financial performance data in relation to potential projects, as well as lead and co-lead project team members on conducting analyses of financial statements and preparing and updating financial models and financial projections as may be needed.
- Carry out institutional assessments on executing agencies, including regulatory framework and implementation capacity assessments of project counterparts.
- Oversee the implementation of AIIB's investment operations with the objective of enhancing quality and accelerating project implementation, with a focus on delivering results.
- Monitor compliance with project agreements and AIIB procedures related to disbursement; monitor the progress of project implementation and financial performance of clients; and assess evolving risk factors and covenant compliance.
- Lead project teams on the preparation of timely and comprehensive monitoring reports.
- Propose recommendations for corrective actions where required and reach an agreement with clients on the implementation of any necessary remedies.
- Lead interactions with clients, cofinancing partners, and other stakeholders with the goal of developing long-term relationships.
- Advise clients on the preparation of technical and feasibility studies and the technical design of projects, leading to investment prioritization and cost-effective solutions to investments.
- Conduct project risk assessment of projects and programs, and advise project teams on mitigation strategies to manage such risks.
- Lead business development activities in public-sector infrastructure projects by interacting with prospective clients, governments, state-owned enterprises, government-related entities, and other institutions (e.g., commercial banks, multilateral agencies, nongovernmental organizations, consulting firms, contractors, intermediaries), gathering information on the ground and building business relationships.
- Facilitate the identification and sourcing of public-private partnership advisory mandates in coordination with other departments.
- Undertake the preparation, supervision, and implementation of support missions and site visits, as needed, to ensure that projects meet development objectives and to help borrowers and implementing agencies address any implementation issues.
- Manage key internal stakeholders and the AIIB project approval process, and organize internal Bank coordination through information exchanges and working with relevant Bank units.
- Support and mentor junior team members.
- Support management in achieving its targets and objectives.
- Perform ad hoc tasks assigned by the department's management.
Requirements
- Minimum 5-7 years of experience in infrastructure finance at a commercial bank, investment bank, international financial institution, or top-tier consultancy.
- Experience working on projects in Region 2 markets would be an advantage.
- Master's degree or equivalent in business, finance, economics, or related fields.
- Technical expertise in the transport, energy, water, or urban sector is not necessary but could be an asset.
- Skilled in financial analysis and the modeling and structuring of corporate finance and other types of infrastructure financing.
- Knowledge of business models in infrastructure sectors.
- Strong organizational and project management skills to conduct the day-to-day management of a large and complex project portfolio.
- Effective communication skills to engage with a range of stakeholders, including government officials, regulators, international organizations, and other development partners.
- Experience leading teams, or demonstrated leadership qualities.
- Proficient in oral and written communication in English.
- Knowledge of the language(s) of a region in which AIIB invests would be an advantage.
