The Associate Investment Officer provides technical support and coordination in processing ADB's private sector investments and technical assistance in Nepal and other South Asian countries. The role involves assisting in the identification, development, approval, implementation, and administration of private sector infrastructure financing projects.

Responsibilities

  • Provide analytical support in credit and financial due diligence, review of contracts and project documents, development of financial models, and assessing risk and credit profile of proposed infrastructure investments.
  • Perform analysis of financial statements and projections, sensitivity analysis and stress testing in coordination with team leaders and external clients.
  • Participate in due diligence missions and support negotiations with project developers, sponsors, and financiers.
  • Provide logistical support and interact with external technical advisors, consultants, and lawyers.
  • Undertake industry and country research as part of transaction risk assessment.
  • Assist in drafting credit memoranda, preparing summaries of project documents, risk assessments, and other required documents.
  • Interface with internal departments including Office of Risk Management and Safeguards Specialists to address credit-related and other issues.
  • Create, maintain and update comprehensive credit files related to transactions.
  • Assist in Investment Committee meetings and other meetings.
  • Maintain database of all projects and financing documents, liaise with central file keeper for orderly electronic filing.
  • Process disbursement requests, verify compliance with conditions, and liaise within ADB and with cofinanciers.
  • Monitor billing statements and payments from borrowers, follow up on delays.
  • Ensure borrowers' compliance with covenants and monitor submission of financial, technical, insurance, safeguard, and other reports.
  • Prepare memoranda for management approval for waivers and consents requested by borrowers, liaise with relevant parties.
  • Assist with preparation of terms of reference for recruitment of consultants for due diligence.
  • Support identification of suitable consultants for country-specific needs.
  • Provide comments and inputs on draft due diligence reports, leveraging PSOD experience.
  • Assist and participate in project identification and development, undertaking due diligence, risk analysis, and mitigation work for structuring loans, equity investments, guarantees or other assistance.
  • Provide inputs for updates on PSOD activities to the Country Director, Nepal Resident Mission.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned and reflected in the workplan.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance and/or Accounting, preferably with advanced training.
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in the field of corporate financing or project finance with a leading international or local financial institution, and/or investment bank.
  • Proven ability to undertake research and analysis on difficult but well-defined tasks, collect and organize required data and information, apply appropriate computer skills in organizing and analyzing the data, and prepare notes, papers, and sections of reports.
  • Good analytical thinking with ability to comprehend causal links, make pros and cons analysis, and analyze factors to reach a decision.
  • Effective report-writing and communication skills in English.
  • Able to guide Administrative Staff to facilitate work planning, delivery and quality review.
  • Able to work collaboratively with teams as a constructive team member.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
