VAM Officer (Data Analysis)

The VAM Officer (Data Analysis) leads the management, integration, analysis, and dissemination of food security, market, beneficiary targeting, and operational data to support evidence-based decision-making across WFP Yemen operations. The role involves transforming complex datasets into actionable insights, overseeing data analytics processes, developing analytical products, and providing technical leadership to support humanitarian decision-making and operational priorities.

Responsibilities

• Lead data analytics and information management activities within the VAM unit, ensuring the effective integration, management, and analysis of food security, market, beneficiary targeting, operational, and external datasets to support evidence-based decision-making.
• Transform complex datasets into actionable information products by developing analytical reports, dashboards, visualizations, maps, briefs, presentations, and other communication products tailored to operational, strategic, and external audiences.
• Coordinate and lead the production and dissemination of regular analytical outputs, including monthly food security updates, market monitoring reports, household food security assessments, and other ad-hoc analytical products.
• Provide technical leadership on data analytics and business intelligence, promoting innovative approaches for data processing, integration, visualization, and analysis to improve the timeliness and quality of evidence generated by the VAM unit.
• Support emergency preparedness and response activities through rapid analysis of food security, market, displacement, conflict, climatic, and economic data to identify emerging risks and inform operational decision-making.
• Oversee data quality assurance and governance processes, ensuring that data collection, storage, processing, and analysis comply with WFP standards and best practices for data management and protection.
• Contribute to the design and implementation of food security assessments, monitoring systems, and analytical frameworks, ensuring that methodologies and data products meet operational and strategic information needs.
• Generate forward-looking analytical insights and forecasting by integrating information from food security monitoring, markets, climate, conflict, displacement, and other relevant sources to support early warning, Programme adaptation, and crisis response planning.
• Support Programme targeting, prioritization, and resource allocation processes through the provision of timely and robust analytical evidence on food insecurity, vulnerability, needs, and assistance gaps.
• Strengthen knowledge management and information sharing by maintaining analytical repositories, documenting methodologies, and ensuring that key findings are accessible and effectively communicated to internal and external stakeholders.
• Build the analytical capacity of VAM staff and partners through technical guidance, mentoring, and training on data management, statistical analysis, visualization tools, and information product development.
• Represent the VAM unit in technical and data related working groups and inter-agency forums, contributing analytical evidence and ensuring alignment with national and humanitarian information management initiatives.
• Support donor reporting, advocacy, and resource mobilization efforts by providing high-quality evidence, analysis, and information products that demonstrate humanitarian needs, Programme outcomes, and food security trends across Yemen.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of analytical systems and processes, identifying opportunities to enhance automation, efficiency, innovation, and the use of emerging technologies within the VAM function.
• Support responsible data management and protection, including data minimization, secure handling, anonymization/pseudonymization where appropriate, controlled sharing and safe publication of sensitive information.

Requirements

• Advanced University degree in Statistics, Data Science, Information Management, Economics, Food Security, Social Sciences, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Mathematics, Development Studies, or another field relevant to data analysis and information management.
• Total relevant 7 years of experience including 3 years of Professional experience as a National Officer or equivalent level.
• Demonstrated proficiency in the use of several statistical tools and methods for food security analysis.
• Developed practical expertise in food security analysis and mapping by participating in multiple quantitative and qualitative assessments, including the design, data collection and analysis.
• Demonstrated technical knowledge and understanding of WFP vulnerability mapping systems and emergency assessment standards.
• Fluency (level C) in English & Arabic languages.
