Supply Chain Officer (Sustainability)

The Supply Chain Officer (Sustainability) supports the design and implementation of initiatives to improve sustainability, resilience, and operational efficiency across WFP supply chain systems. The role involves technical support, policy development, partnership building, research, and training to promote sustainable supply chain management within WFP and with external partners.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical support to Country Offices to implement regional supply chain environmental strategies and sustainability projects.
• Coordinate and support development, update and implementation of policies, guidelines, plans and procedures to strengthen sustainability, resilience, efficiency, agility, reliability and quality in WFP supply chain operations.
• Build and maintain relationships with internal WFP divisions and external partners including private sector, UN agencies, NGOs and governments.
• Seek partnership and funding opportunities through proposal development and effective positioning of projects.
• Identify innovative financing and procurement modalities to incentivize sustainable practices.
• Conduct research on trends and solutions from humanitarian and development fields, academia and private sector and translate findings into analysis and recommendations.
• Document lessons learned and best practices for scaling sustainable supply chain initiatives.
• Support frameworks, guidelines and tools including WFP’s ECODASH environmental impact measurement system to monitor and report sustainability impacts.
• Identify opportunities to integrate social sustainability considerations into WFP’s supply chain sustainability approach.
• Provide technical assistance, guidance and training to Country Offices and partners on supply chain sustainability initiatives.
• Support other thematic areas within the Supply Chain Division and perform other related duties as required.

Requirements

• Advanced university degree in Environmental Science, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering, International Development, International Relations, or another relevant field; or first university degree with additional years of related work experience and/or trainings/courses.
• At least three years of relevant professional experience for CST I / Level I Consultancy.
• At least five years of relevant professional experience related to sustainability in the multilateral sector for CST II / Level II Consultancy.
• Experience working on environmental and/or social sustainability initiatives within a supply chain context.
• Experience in supply chain management, procurement, logistics, operations, circular economy, climate action, sustainable sourcing or related fields.
• Experience conducting research, policy analysis or technical assessments (desirable).
• Experience managing projects and coordinating with multiple stakeholders (desirable).
• Experience developing guidance materials, training programmes or knowledge products (desirable).
• Experience building partnerships with governments, international organizations, NGOs, donors or private sector organizations (desirable).
• Familiarity with sustainability reporting frameworks, impact measurement methodologies or ESG-related approaches (desirable).
• Experience working in developing countries, humanitarian settings or international development programmes (desirable).
• Consulting or advisory experience (desirable).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in multicultural environments.
• Fluency in oral and written English, including strong technical writing skills.
• Intermediate knowledge of a second official UN language, particularly French, Spanish and/or Arabic, is highly desirable.
