See your match score & applyThe internship provides analytical and operational support to budget monitoring, resource management, data analysis, and internal coordination mechanisms within the Budget & Programming Unit at WFP Mauritania. The intern will gain structured experience in budget and resource management in a humanitarian context under the supervision of the Budget and Programming Officer.
Responsibilities
- Collect, consolidate, clean, and structure budget and resource data from tracking files and WFP institutional systems as authorized.
- Update monitoring tools related to contributions, available resources, unprogrammed balances, fund usage, expenditures, and financing needs.
- Perform first-level consistency checks, document discrepancies, and submit them to the Budget and Programming Officer for review.
- Prepare tables, charts, and descriptive summaries highlighting trends, discrepancies, deadlines, and points requiring attention.
- Support the collection and consolidation of contributions from relevant units for monthly pipeline exercises and needs projections.
- Assist in preparing Resource Management Committee (RMC) materials under supervision, including situation tables, presentations, lists of points to review, and follow-up on agreed actions.
- Maintain calendars, schedules, and tracking tools related to programming, use, and closure of contributions.
- Prepare draft reports under supervision and ensure structured filing of working documents and supporting evidence.
- Conduct occasional descriptive analyses on budget execution, resource availability, funding gaps, and contribution trends.
- Contribute to improving Excel models, dashboards, quality controls, and simple procedures used by the BPU.
- Document sources, assumptions, definitions, and update steps to ensure traceability and continuity of tools.
- Perform any other related tasks corresponding to the learning objectives and responsibility level of an intern.
Requirements
- Be a student or recent graduate (within six months) enrolled in or having completed at least two years of undergraduate studies or enrolled in a master's program.
- Have followed courses in the last twelve months.
- Be studying or have studied finance, economics, management, business administration, statistics, data analysis or a related field.
- Proficiency in French, both oral and written; English proficiency is an asset.
- Be able to work in Nouakchott for the entire duration of the internship and undertake authorized travel if necessary.
- No direct family relationship with a WFP employee (son, daughter, brother, or sister).
- Good numerical and analytical skills; ability to work with structured data and identify inconsistencies.
- Good command of Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint; knowledge of Power BI or other visualization tools is appreciated.

- Ability to present complex information simply, accurately, and visually.
