See your match score & applyThe Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for detailed mechanical design for building projects including schools, hospitals, clinics, shelters, warehouses and rehousing projects in accordance with UNRWA's needs, policies, and standards. The role involves preparing tender documents, exploring new technologies, providing technical advice, liaising with construction teams, and supervising consultants to ensure adherence to design criteria.
Responsibilities
- Carry out detailed mechanical design for building projects including schools, hospitals, clinics, shelters, warehouses and rehousing projects in accordance with Agency’s needs, policies, design criteria, standards, local and international codes of practice.
- Maintain and apply existing standard details of mechanical works utilizing relevant software and review drawings prepared by Technical Assistants/CAD.
- Contribute to the preparation of tender documents related to mechanical works, including specifications and Bill of Quantities (BoQs).
- Search for emerging models and technologies to identify new materials and techniques to achieve better results and meet changing requirements.
- Participate in studies and technical activities satisfying environmental aspects, including incorporation of green elements in design and safety needs.
- Provide technical advice and carry out special design for alteration works of Agency premises; write technical reports on mechanical aspects and building system inspections.
- Liaise with Construction teams on mechanical design issues during implementation; update mechanical design drawings to reflect as-built conditions.
- Coordinate and liaise with other designers to optimize designs and maintain building integrity at minimum cost; recommend improvements to standards and procedures.
- Assist in drafting terms of references for consultants related to mechanical works and supervise their work to ensure adherence to design criteria, standards, and procedures.
- Provide substantive input on various reports including weekly, monthly progress reports and ad-hoc reports.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- A university degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited university/institution.
- At least four years of relevant experience, including at least two years in design of public buildings and developmental projects.
- Experience with mechanical design software and computer aided design, such as AutoCAD and other software.
- Good command of written and spoken English and Arabic (UN Level II).
- Currently residing in the duty station (Amman, Jordan) and authorized to work there.
- Knowledge on relevant “greening” approaches and protection needs is desirable.
- Understanding of the context of Palestine refugees and UNRWA operations is desirable.
