Senior Partnerships and Engagement Strategy Advisor (Retainer)

The Senior Partnerships and Engagement Strategy Advisor provides senior technical and strategic advice to strengthen relationships with USA-based partners, notably the World Bank, and supports the Cities Alliance Director in partnership development and engagement strategy. The role involves representing the organization, identifying new partnership opportunities, and advising on programmatic and funding initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Familiarise with the current Cities Alliance strategy, approaches and work and keep up to date through regular meetings and engagement with staff
• Engage regularly with the World Bank and semi-regularly with Habitat for Humanity International and UNOPS Washington
• Identify and suggest new organisations and people for Cities Alliance to establish relationships with
• Explore practical options to expand Cities Alliance’s profile, influence and work across existing and potential partners, including outside Washington
• Engage with World Bank focal points and key staff to raise awareness of Cities Alliance work and explore new opportunities
• Keep abreast of climate initiatives in the World Bank related to funding architecture and programmes to broaden and deepen the World Bank/Cities Alliance relationship
• Identify partnership opportunities with the World Bank including decentralized operations
• Provide strategic technical input, review and advisory services on identified programmes
• Advise Cities Alliance staff in developing and framing concept notes for partnership with World Bank projects leveraging technical assistance capacity and thematic expertise
• Actively seek opportunities for Cities Alliance in World Bank funding/project windows and alert management
• Identify relevant conferences, meetings and events for Cities Alliance representation and inform the Director
• Represent the Director of Cities Alliance at relevant meetings and events
• Represent Cities Alliance on panels and discussions with USA-based partners/events held in the USA
• Travel as requested to attend events, conferences, meetings

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Urban Studies, Economics, Political Science, Public Administration, Business Administration/Management or related fields with 12 years of relevant experience or Master’s degree (or equivalent) in any of the above or related fields with 10 years of relevant experience is required
• At least ten (10) years of professional work experience in sustainable and inclusive urban development is/are required
• Experience of working for multilateral development institutions/international financial institutions is required
• Experience in senior representation, stakeholder/donor management and acknowledged expertise in urban development is required
• Experience in engaging with partners and stakeholders in the Urban Sector is required
• Thorough knowledge of the operations of the World Bank (desired)
• Fluent English required
