The Information Assistant will support the implementation of the Social Territories Program project by developing and maintaining information systems, collecting and analyzing data, producing reports and information products, and supporting knowledge management activities to promote sustainable urban development in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain and update information systems, databases, repositories and digital records related to programme activities.
  • Collect, compile, validate and analyse qualitative and quantitative information from internal and external sources.
  • Develop and maintain information products, including dashboards, data visualizations, tables, charts, maps, briefs and presentations.
  • Monitor data quality and consistency, identify gaps or discrepancies, and recommend adjustments to improve the reliability of programme information.
  • Produce regular analytical reports, summaries and information briefs based on programme data, monitoring results and relevant external sources.
  • Conduct research and gather information from public databases, official statistics, institutional reports and other reliable sources to inform programme activities.
  • Organize, structure and synthesize complex information into clear and accessible formats for different audiences, including technical teams, management and partners.
  • Maintain standardized datasets, templates, metadata and documentation to ensure consistency and traceability of programme information.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of data collection, information management and reporting tools and procedures.
  • Prepare inputs for programme reports, presentations, concept notes, publications and other institutional documents, ensuring accuracy and consistency of information.
  • Document expert group meetings, training events and other activities related to the planning, development and implementation of ongoing and new projects.
  • Participate in meetings, forums and conferences promoted by UN-Habitat, as requested.
  • Monitor assigned deliverables in accordance with the work plan and agreed timelines.
  • Maintain organized records of project activities, risks and key documentation.
  • Prepare and format reports in accordance with ABNT guidelines, UN-Habitat quality standards and project requirements.
  • Uphold ethical principles in the course of the assignment, particularly regarding active listening, respect for diversity, and the promotion of safe, inclusive and participatory learning environments.
  • Perform other administrative, operational or management-related duties assigned by the Head of the Brazil Office, consistent with the functions of the position.
  • Complete all courses and training activities indicated by supervisor.
  • Ensure personal security and comply with United Nations security mechanisms.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy, Sociology, Political Science, Administration, Geography, Economics, Urban Studies, Statistics or related fields is required, or additional three (3) years of relevant experience to the post, beyond the requirement.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in themes related to data analysis, reports and information for public policy, data visualization, data collection, processing and analysis in Brazil is required.
  • Previous experience working in the United Nations is desirable.
  • Proficiency in Windows, Word, Excel, Outlook and web search tools is required.
  • Good command of programming languages such as R or Python is desirable.
  • Good command of GIS software (QGIS or ArcGIS) is desirable.
  • Experience with data visualization tools is desirable.
  • Knowledge of project management methodologies is desirable.
  • Experience with GitHub or GitLab is desirable.
  • Completion of security course BSAFE from UNDSS during the first month of employment is required.
  • Familiarity and compliance with United Nations security mechanisms according to the Framework of Accountability for the United Nations Security Management System is required.
  • Fluency in Portuguese is required.
  • English and French are working languages of the UN Secretariat; Spanish is working language of the Regional Office.
