The CCAC National Mitigation Consultant for Fiji will support Fiji's super pollutant agenda by providing policy and technical advice for mitigation policies and implementation. The consultant will coordinate super pollutant mitigation activities across sectors, assist in accessing climate finance, and support Fiji's engagement on super pollutant issues regionally and internationally.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to the CCAC Focal Point at the Department of Climate Change to support Fiji’s super pollutant agenda and ensure relevant projects are completed within timeline and aligned with government priorities.
  • Provide policy and technical advice for mitigation policies and implementation in collaboration with government, international, and national development partners.
  • Assist the Division in writing proposals to access climate finance for mitigation work in Fiji.
  • Coordinate super pollutant mitigation activities across multiple sectors including development and implementation of Fiji’s NDC and other key climate and clean air policies and strategies.
  • Identify implementation gaps in Fiji’s super pollutant mitigation domain and prepare a mitigation dossier for use in bilateral, multilateral, and international meetings.
  • Support coordination and engagement efforts related to potential new CCAC-funded projects and facilitate support to project implementers.
  • Submit SLCP mitigation proposals to relevant funding mechanisms and provide guidance for investment plans/project pipelines.
  • Contribute to MRV enhancing and enabling projects including CBIT and initiatives under UNFCCC transparency and reporting requirements.
  • Update monthly on new developments and upcoming national, regional, and international events related to SLCPs.
  • Participate at high political level in SLCP relevant events and present at CCAC events and meetings.
  • Support integration of SLCP mitigation measures into Fiji’s updated NDC and policy/legal frameworks under Fiji’s Climate Change Act 2021.
  • Collaborate with CCAC and national government departments and identify new opportunities for engagement with the CCAC.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree or an equivalent qualification in a subject related to environmental management/science, economics, health, project management, finance, administration, or in a relevant field.
  • At least 4 years of professional experience working in a field relevant to environmental management/science, climate change, economics, health, project management, finance, administration.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide technical assistance to governments and other stakeholders is required.
  • Ability to work effectively with multiple stakeholder groups including national governments is required.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral presentations) are required.
  • Knowledge of the national policies in climate change mitigation and air pollution is required.
  • Experience working on climate change mitigation is desirable.
  • Ability to work with advanced formulas in Excel spreadsheet is desirable.
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken) is required.
