Data Engineer

The Data Engineer role at NATO HQ MARCOM involves designing and delivering technical solutions for complex data integration to enable data-driven decisions. The position supports maritime situational awareness and operational decision making through data engineering, project management, and data science.

Responsibilities

• Design and deliver technical solutions required to integrate complex data and enable data-driven decisions.
• Deliver critical data integration projects to support maritime situational awareness and operational decision making.
• Contribute to MARCOM’s journey to standardise technical practice and lift technical capability in project management, data engineering and data science.
• Leverage complex algorithms, data science workflows, data modelling and AI to solve business problems and deepen situational awareness.
• Develop and adopt critical data engineering methods for collection, storage, processing, pipeline management and governance of data.
• Develop and adopt appropriate architecture (policies, procedures, guidelines and ways of working) to strengthen maturity and enable continuous improvement in data integration.

Requirements

• 3 years’ experience of applying data science tools to support advanced data analytics, machine learning and data visualisation.
• Educated to an advanced Degree level in data science/data analytics or a closely related field and 2 years function related experience; or Higher Secondary education and completed advanced vocational training in that discipline leading to a professional qualification or professional accreditation with 4 years post related experience.
• Demonstrable experience of delivering data integration using AI and or Machine Learning Tools e.g. Databricks, Watson, Microsoft Cognitive Toolkit, TensorFlow.
• Demonstrable experience of designing mathematical and statistical models to resolve business challenges.
• Demonstrable experience applying data science, analytics and data integration tools/programming languages on real-world datasets e.g. Python, R, KNIME, Splunk, Geo data.
• Industry recognised qualification / accreditation in relevant field (desirable).
• Experience of using big data ecosystems e.g. Hadoop, Spark and/or MapReduce (desirable).
• Experience of working in NATO or similar multi-national defence / security sector (desirable).
