Deputy Head of Policy Research and Migration Law

The Deputy Head of Policy Research and Migration Law supports the Head of Unit in supervising and coordinating research activities related to migration, integration, and asylum within Austria and Europe. The role involves authoring studies, conducting statistical analysis, presenting findings, and supporting project development and implementation.

Responsibilities

• Act as Deputy for the Head of Unit and perform her/his duties when s/he is absent and/or for specific activities.
• Assist in the supervision of researching and drafting of studies and reports on migration, integration and asylum issues within the Austrian and European context in the framework of the National Contact Point (NCP) Austria in the European Migration Network (EMN).
• Author studies, informs, policy briefs and other migration and asylum related research outputs.
• Conduct statistical analysis and data visualization for research outputs.
• Present study outcomes and research findings to national stakeholders, in international fora and to senior management.
• Contribute to the development and maintenance of a network of relevant stakeholders in the field of migration and asylum.
• Support the activities related to the implementation and oversight of project work including monitoring budgets, expenses and donor reporting.
• Assist in project development by drafting concept notes and project narratives; defining activities and results-based indicators as well as drafting the budget; identifying potential donors; and preparing submission packages for calls for proposals.
• Plan, organize and prepare events, workshops and conferences in close coordination with supervisor.
• Organize, chair and attend meetings if necessary and in coordination with supervisor.
• General administrative support for projects and related activities.
• Perform any other duties as may be assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelors’ degree or equivalent, in Law, Economics, Political or Social Sciences and/or International Relations or a related field from an accredited academic institution with four years of relevant professional experience.
• PhD and Master’s degree or equivalent in the areas are a distinct advantage.
• High school degree with 6 (six) years of relevant experience.
• Experience with budgets, donor reporting and project development.
• Prior experience at IOM or other international organizations is a distinct advantage.
• Experience in overseeing research activities.
• Experience in academic research is a strong advantage.
• Academic publications in the field of migration and asylum are an advantage.
• Experience in working with statistics is a distinct advantage.
• Publications in the field of migration and asylum are an advantage.
• Knowledge of the Austrian and EU migration and asylum policies and context.
• Strong communication and presentation skills both written and oral.
• Excellent computer skills (MS Office, in particular MS Excel).
• Ability to draft clear and concise research papers in German and English.
• Fluency in German and English (oral and written) is required.
