The Monetary and Capital Markets Department (MCM) seeks a Financial Sector Expert/Senior Financial Sector Expert for its Global Markets Analysis Division in London. The role involves analyzing macro-financial developments and financial stability risks in major economies, contributing to IMF reports, and supporting market surveillance and outreach activities.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze macro-financial developments and financial stability risks in major European, Middle Eastern, and African economies, and contribute to thematic notes.
  • Contribute to the analysis presented in the IMF’s Global Financial Stability Report, as well as to analysis presented in research blogs and ad hoc reports.
  • Build tools and develop databases to support high-frequency market surveillance across the main asset classes, with a focus on developed and emerging markets in the European time zone.
  • Develop financial market contacts to provide context for asset price movements, gauge emerging stability risks, and brief senior MCM management.
  • Support the IMF’s outreach activities in London.
  • Contribute to GA’s daily markets monitor (Global Markets Monitor, or GMM) and Weekly London Update (an internal report), with regular coverage of mature and emerging markets primarily in Europe, as well as the Middle East and Africa (EMEA).
  • Help manage the practical issues associated with the London office, including administrative, security, and IT matters.

Requirements

  • A master’s degree in finance, economics, econometrics or a related field.
  • At least four years of relevant professional work experience in financial markets or macroeconomic analysis, gained in financial institutions, the public sector, or an international organization.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of financial markets and a proven ability to analyze and interpret asset market developments.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to conduct high-quality data analysis both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to deliver concise, insightful written analysis under tight deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in an international environment and engage with colleagues across time zones.
  • A self-starter with the ability to work autonomously.
  • Knowledge of economic and financial databases and information services (e.g., Bloomberg, CEIC, Haver Analytics).
  • Strong skills in Excel and data management.
  • Candidates with advanced knowledge of econometric packages (EViews, MATLAB, Stata, Python, R, or similar) will be preferred.
